Dynamical vs Linear Neurofeedback
Understanding the Difference in Approach
At NeuroHarmony, we use a method known as Dynamical Neurofeedback. To help you understand what makes this approach unique, it's helpful to compare it with the more traditional model known as Linear Neurofeedback.

Both are forms of brain training designed to improve regulation, but they work in very different ways.
What Is Linear Neurofeedback?
Linear neurofeedback is the most widely used and historically established model. It works by identifying specific brainwave patterns considered to be “out of balance” and then training the brain to move toward more desired frequencies.

This approach typically involves:
-
A brain map or QEEG assessment to determine targeted brain areas
-
A fixed training protocol aimed at increasing or decreasing specific brainwaves
-
Practitioner-led sessions that direct the brain toward a predetermined outcome
-
Frequent recalibration of the protocol to adjust progress

Linear neurofeedback can be effective for some people and is often used in clinical settings. However, because it imposes a fixed standard on a dynamic system, it may cause discomfort or side effects in some individuals — particularly those with complex or sensitive nervous systems.
What Is Dynamical Neurofeedback?
Dynamical neurofeedback is a more flexible, adaptive approach. Rather than pushing the brain toward a specific target, this method gives the brain real-time information about its own activity and allows it to adjust on its own terms.

Our system:
-
Does not require a diagnosis, brain map, or pre-set protocol
-
Offers the brain gentle feedback through small pauses in sound
-
Works with the whole brain, rather than focusing on specific regions
-
Encourages self-regulation, rather than enforcing change from the outside
-
Adapts moment to moment based on your brain’s unique activity pattern

This process respects the brain’s natural intelligence. By allowing the brain to notice its own patterns and respond freely, dynamical neurofeedback encourages long-term regulation with minimal effort and no known side effects.
Why We Use Dynamical Neurofeedback
At NeuroHarmony, we value approaches that work with the brain, not against it. Dynamical neurofeedback gives your nervous system space to adjust and recover without pressure. It does not push, force, or override. Instead, it helps the brain become more aware of its patterns so it can naturally find better balance.

This approach is especially helpful for individuals with sensitive nervous systems, those recovering from trauma or burnout, or anyone looking for a safe and gentle path to greater regulation.
